  MY

STORY

My grandmother shared stories about her

grandfather and uncle, both Jamaican revolutionary activists that helped defeat British

colonial powers.

I want the next generation of residents in District 38 to begin their passion for social justice thesame way I did. I want them – now just children – to tell their grandkids the story about their parents and how they helped mold a healthy community that was almost devastated by

gentrification, stricken by toxic air pollutants, and whose population was on the verge of declining because of high-rates of mortality.

You can help shape a new legacy for our community by joining me as I endeavor to make District 38’s State Senate seat, the people’s seat.

I want to share with you how the conversations at the kitchen table propelled me to this run.

THE RECLAMATION OF OUR FUTURE STARTS IN DISTRICT 38

Our job isn’t to predict the future, rather it's our duty to create it.

Building the future, a future rooted in the prosperity and wellness of all of us requires that we fight to enhance the quality of life for all Georgians. This vision for the future is fortified in the 38th State Senate District of Georgia and while the people who live in this district may experience serious challenges, we are also a people grounded in incredible perseverance and the embodiment of a rebellious spirit of optimism.

It is through our collective spirit of  rebellious optimism that we, the people will win this state senate seat so it can be used as a tool to end health disparities, environmental racism, economic inequities, gentrification, voter suppression, and the use of the criminal legal system to oppression Black and Brown people. Through this senate seat, we the people, will build the future.

Although your individual names will not be on the ballot, when I am elected, this senate seat will belong to people once again. I am running because I welcome being held accountable to the promises and values that will be shared throughout this campaign. I welcome that accountability because the status quo teaches us that when we don’t keep our leaders accountable to their promises, we are robbed of the future we deserved.

The robbery ends with the launch of this campaign.

Below is an introduction to a more comprehensive agenda that will continue to evolve as I meet with constituents, knock on doors, engage in listening sessions, and connect with community groups and advocates.

I invite you to share your ideas by emailing me at campaign@devinbarringtonward.com

OUR ISSUES | OUR FUTURE

It's  a shame your zip code can determine your health.

Government has provided billions of dollars to corporations and developers but have not done enough to help minorities and small businesses generate wealth.

Too many people live in communities where cancer causing gasses and other pollutants are released and impacting there.

Legal cannabis industry will be worth $23 Billion by 2022, yet the people most impacted by cannabis criminalization aren't getting a share in the profits.

I know first hand how homelessness and rising housing costs can be harmful and displace many.

Georgia continues to lead the nation in the number of people in prison or under state supervision. We must figure out more solutions to crime and less punishment.
